“My Year 7 to 10 years at SAMS were some of my best school years. They were good prep years. The class that I was in had a strong bond. We knew each other really well – nobody was ever left out.”

“The Independent Learning time really helped. When I went to Vanguard Military School after my time at SAMS, I was confident with my learning. My classmates asked the same questions that I asked, but I was able to go away and do my work on my own. I did not need someone there to help me all the time, because I had practiced working problem-solving things independently.”

“The school trips that we had in Year 10 were the best. The highlights were the Year 10 trip to Wellington and the Hawaii trip at the end of the year. I remember the Wellington trip like as if it was yesterday. We were all into it and loving doing things as a team. We did this ‘Goosechase challenge’ – it was so much fun. We were all being ourselves and having a great time. The Hawaii trip was cool too. We bonded with other students and really got to know each other.”

“I am at Vanguard Military School now. It is crazy that it is my final year. I am doing Maths, English, PE, History and Science. I choose History as a subject because Social Studies was my strongest subject at SAMS. I have flown through all the History assessments. In Year 12, two of us were chosen to do some Year 13 standards. It was so cool. I liked being extended like that. Next year, I’m aiming to do a Travel and Tourism degree and want to become a Flight Attendant.”
